  • The tree planting events in Sydney and Adelaide are part of DHL Express’ national tree planting program
  • More than 600 trees were planted by volunteers from DHL Express and local Surf Life Saving Clubs

DHL Express, the world’s leading international express services provider, has planted 550 native trees at Sir Joseph Banks Park in Botany, Sydney on Saturday (November 24) and 100 in West Beach, Adelaide on Monday (November 26). These initiatives were conducted with support from Surf Life Saving Australia.

Key highlights:

  • More than 40 DHL Express employees, volunteer surf lifesavers and nippers from local Surf Life Saving Clubs volunteered their time, to help rejuvenate native bushland within reclaimed land areas. The park, situated adjacent to Sydney Airport and Port Botany, provides a valuable habitat for native wildlife in the area.
  • In Adelaide, 14 DHL Express employees collaborated with volunteer surf lifesavers to plant 100 drooping she-oak trees along Patawalonga Creek, West Beach, restoring habitat for native wildlife. The creek runs through the grounds of Adelaide Airport and is part of the man-made Patawalonga Lake system, designed to control flooding in neighbouring suburbs.

The events follow the recent launch of DHL Express’ national tree planting program that aims to improve public spaces for local communities along Australia’s coastline.

Gary Edstein, CEO and Senior Vice President, DHL Express Oceania said, “The Botany area has been an important hub for Australia’s early industries, and has over time, inevitably been impacted by urban development. Local environmental organisations have been working hard to improve the environment in the Botany area, and we are pleased to be making a further contribution to these efforts with the support of Surf Life Saving Australia. In line with the Group’s global target to plant one million trees every year, we have planted almost 2,000 trees over the last two years, and will continue to do so in the years to come.”

Graham Ford AM, President, Surf Life Saving Australia said, “Surf Life Saving Australia’s volunteers are truly committed to supporting their local community and protecting our beautiful environment, and will now be able to make a positive and direct impact on the ecosystem in supporting DHL’s tree planting program.”

DHL Express will continue to organise more tree planting events in 2019, supported by Surf Life Saving Clubs, and in conjunction with organisations such as local councils and conservation groups.
