DHL, the Official Founding and Logistics Partner to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is bringing the 13th and 14th races of the season to London and inspiring young women into motorsport with behind-the-scenes access to the race and industry.

DHL handles the logistics requirements of Formula E organizers and teams and will be transporting over 415 tons of freight – including all race cars, batteries and charging units, media, and broadcasting equipment – to London from New York.

As well as helping Formula E with a tailored, multi-modal transport approach that maximizes efficiency and reduces CO2 emissions, the London-leg of the partnership includes on and off-track initiatives that highlight the joint DHL-Formula E commitment to environmental and social responsibility.

One of the initiatives coming to London is FIA Girls on Track, a project designed to provide young women with the opportunity to go behind the scenes at Formula E and find out about potential career paths in motorsports. 120 girls and young women aged between 8-18 will be going trackside to discover the industry in more detail and learn about the opportunities available to them as well as sustainability in motoring and logistics. DHL will run a full day of Girls on Track workshops at the ExCeL Centre with interactive activities including DHL’s Route Optimization Challenge and VR game Box Stacker Pro.

As part of DHL UK’s existing relationship with Street League, a charity using the power of sport to tackle poverty and give young people the opportunities they need to succeed, a group of young women supported by the charity will take part in FIA Girls on Track and watch the race unfold over the weekend.

Duncan Heron, VP Marketing, DHL Express UK says, “We’re incredibly proud to be bringing Formula E to the Capital, using our logistics expertise and leveraging our investment in sustainable logistics to help the most pioneering competition in the world grow further in influence. Our shared values make this partnership ideal. Both DHL and Formula E are committed to using our partnership to encourage more diversity in motorsports and logistics and I’m excited to see future talent inspired and encouraged to pursue new opportunities.

Matt Scammell, Chief Commercial Officer at Formula E says, “This season is our biggest yet and DHL’s support bringing the race to London is critical to our success. Working together on environmental and social projects like FIA Girls on Track to encourage more women in to sport and business is what really makes our partnership special, and we’re delighted to be welcoming guests from Street League for this weekend’s activities and race.

To further encourage young women into sport and business, Formula E’s pitlane reporter and Girls on Track ambassador, Nicki Shields joins Harlequins’ Shaunagh Brown and Manchester United’s Head of HR, Annie Hale, to talk about diversity, inclusion and belonging in the most recent instalment of The DHL Greatness Series. The three guests share advice and experiences to help empower the next generation on their journey.

In 2021, DHL delivered the most sustainable season ever in terms of Formula E logistics, using biofuel for all road and sea freight and offsetting all emissions for Formula E’s road and ocean freight. In season 8 DHL is building on this success by gradually reducing the footprint of its air operation.
